Anno 50-blog

These are the watches we’re working on.

The ochs und junior anno 50 is an annual calendar which uses a system of dots to indicate the day, date and month. For these three functions, Ludwig Oechslin has added three new components to the ebauche. The hands are in white gold, as are the dial and the rotor  –  although after being subjected to heat in the oven, the latter two are grey.

All of this is produced by Paul Gerber  –  not forgetting his new self-winding movement…

The prototype case in silver is made by Peter Cantieni. The keen-eyed observer will notice that the strap lugs are oxidising. We love that patina…

Next year we’ll be making this watch in white gold and red gold  –  with visible machining marks.

Rhubarb and oak are the tanning agents used for Ecopell’s leather. Other manufacturers use chrome…The calendar’s indication dots will be given a luminescent finish, the dial will be glass-bead blasted before heating, and  –  who knows  –  maybe we’ll mount ox horns on the hands…
