Date & month for 100 years.

Calendario cent’anni, known as the cca is a 100-year calendar designed by Ludwig Oechslin. This is a real timepiece that will give you a whole package of information from hour, minute, second, date and month up to the leap year. The grade 5 titanium case holds a Ulysse Nardin UN-320 Movement | The first ochs und junior to be built in series is available in 3 versions.

Overview

The calendario cent’anni is ochs und junior’s newest addition to its already impressive array of remarkably “uncomplicated” complications. It is based on Dr. Ludwig Oechslin’s ingenious simplification of telling time by a system of dots rotating around various parts of the dial. This timepiece is classic ochs und junior, teeming with individuality, understatement and simplicity. It accurately displays:

  • correct number of monthdate (28. 29. 30. or 31. days) for 100 years, without needing correction for the length of any month (including February in leap years), displayed via a traveling, rectangular dot on the date spiral.
  • the month and leap years on a central rotating disk.
  • The leap year and the three following years are displayed on a decentralized disc, rotating together with the position of the month-display.
  • the central hour and minutes with the seconds rotating on a small disk at 6 o’clock.

While all this information appears to be effortlessly produced by a module consisting of a mere 9 individual components, this module is the pinnacle of Dr. Oechslin’s more than 30- year quest to simplify mechanical movements to the maximum.

Available models

The calendario cent’anni is not customizable, but comes in 3 different models.

Reading the functions

The time in hours, minutes and seconds is displayed by central hour and minute hands as well as an off-center seconds disk at 6 o’clock.

The date is displayed via a square dot traveling clockwise around the signatory ochs und junior spiral. The rectangular dot will correctly display months with 28, 29, 30 or 31 days.

Situated at the center of the dial is the date disk, which indicates each of the 12 months of the year by aligning the fine line of the annual disk with the outer 12-month perimeter of the date disk. The small annual disk rotates once every four years to indicate the leap year and the three following years, which is marked by a thicker line which, in a leap year, aligns with the fine line of the year disk.

Mechanics

The cca module invented by Dr. Ludwig Oechslin consists of the following components.

  1. Brass dial with functional back
  2. Date disk
  3. Annual star wheel
  4. Main plate
  5. Gear wheel
  6. Month wheel
  7. Gear “finger”
  8. Transmission wheel month end
  9. Wheel month end

The cca is powered by Ulysee Nardin’s automatic caliber UN320. It beats 28,800 times per hour and has a power reserve of 48 hours.
